The opening of the Lawn Bowls Club completes a full range of activities that Lauro Golf has for its clients, becoming now a veritable Resort. It currently has a 27 hole Golf Course with a Paddle Tennis Club, an Equestrian Centre and the imminent opening of New Driving Range and Golf School. The arrival of the Lawn Bowls Club has been highly anticipated and many people have already demonstrated their enthusiasm and interest towards this British originated sport. The newly established club now has over one hundred members and its first goal is to be an active member in the Costa del Sol Lawn Bowl Clubs League.
After the official opening at 1400 by the illustrious Mayor, Lauro Golf Resort Manager Mr. Carlos Pitarch, and Lawn Bowls Club Director Mr. Kenneth Talbot, the participants enjoyed canapés and refreshments catered by Venta la Risa followed by an exhibition match.
Lawn Bowls is a traditional sport originated in the twelfth century, and practiced in several countries, it has gained tremendous popularity in England, especially in the south, which has thousands of fans. As this sport does not need a good physical preparation, it is recommended for all ages. The Lawn Bowls is usually played outdoors on grass or an artificial grass surface called the bowling green. The goal of the game is that asymmetric rolling balls, called bowls are rolled as close as possible to another smaller ball, usually white, called "jack" or "kitty".
